Bullet Sunday 333

Posted on Sunday, June 9th, 2013

Dave!Time to find your happy place... because Bullet Sunday starts now...

• Blackhawks!!! And so it's the Blackhawks vs. the Bruins for the Stanley Cup...

DAVETOON: Lil' Dave in a Blackhawks Jersey

GO HAWKS!!! GO HAWKS!!! GO HAWKS!!! GO HAWKS!!! GO HAWKS!!!

• Hart. Hart to Hart was a staple of my television viewing habits when I was a kid. Not only was it entertaining, but Stefanie Powers and her massive pile of feathered hair was almost too good to be true. Now Adam Scott and Amy Poehler have done a shot-for-shot remake of the opening credits.

And it's absolute genius...

If they were to ever do a retro made-for-television movie I would watch the shit out of it. The idea of a remake is just too brilliant to pass up.

• Crapper First Cracker Jack had die-cast metal toy prizes. Eventually those were replaced with plastic toy prizes. Then they ditched the toys altogether and switched to stupid stickers. And now? They don't even bother with the damn sticker. You get an "online prize" of some kind that you redeem with your phone. Well, unless you have an iPhone...

Cracker Jack Sucks

This blows. Why do they even bother?

• Photoshop! Every once in a while something goes viral on the internet that I actually like. "Photoshop Live"is one of those rare events...

I hope they do more of these... it's such a great idea.

• Miley! Since I hadn't heard anything music-related from Miley Cyrus in quite a while, I naturally assumed she now runs a gas station and mini-mart in Pittsburgh after I saw this...

Miley's Gas & Sip

But then lo and behold, this track is waiting for me when I get home...

I'm diggin' it! I can't stop! And I just don't care!

Early to bed... Early to have the alarm wake your ass up at the crack of dawn so you can drive three hours to work.

  1. The Chad says:

As a Red Wings fan, I cannot in good conscious root for the Blackhawks. I can, however, root for the team that knocked out the whiniest little bitch in the game. Goodbye, Sydney Crosby. Go Bruins!

  2. RW says:

You can’t fool me, I know you graphic artist guys. You all just love the classic old-school hockey logos, dontcha?

    • Dave2 says:

Ha! Errr… not really. When it comes to logos, I usually prefer new hotness over old school. Thus the NHL teams don’t have any logos I like (except perhaps the Sharks or Coyotes). Though if I WERE rooting for logos, Chicago would absolutely win out over the boring Bruins logo!

      • RW says:

Hmm, interesting. I always got the impression from you that you had tons of affinity for the old school stuff too though. Now I’m starting to understand maybe why you weren’t so impressed with the packaging from that Bonomo Turkish Taffy I sent you home with some weeks ago.

See, for me, I can’t go ahead with any of my stuff unless I know from where the original stuff came from and looked like. But then, I’m an old-fashioned coot sometimes.

        • Dave2 says:

No no no… for sports teams, I think the modern more dynamic approach is better for logos. But for packaging, companies, publications, and the like? I am all about old-school. Love old-school. Incorporate old-school thinking into my work. And I took a photo of that Turkish Taffy before I devoured it, so yeah… I love that kind of stuff. But for a hockey team? I just think that the modern logos have more impact and support the action better.

          • RW says:

            Ok, I got ya. Cool.

            Now, trivia time…

Why is it that in an era of politically-correct sports teams’ names and the controversy around some (Redskins, Braves, Indians, etc.) you will not only not ever see a complaint about the Chicago hockey club calling themselves the “Blackhawks” but, if you look, you will find support for the name from Native Americans?

The answer is that the Blackhawks are not named after a tribe or the use a slang term for Native Americans that might be insulting to them in some way. the Chicago Blackhawks are named after a person who is considered a great hero to Native Americans. Chief Blackhawk led his people in defense of their culture and lands in the Blackhawk War (in which Abraham Lincoln was a militiaman). And, what isn’t too well known, is that hockey is a sport native to the Americas. The French found locals playing it when they “discovered” certain sections of Canada.

And the fact that the Chicago hockey team uses the name of a hero in a sport created by Native Americans is actually a point of pride to them, rather than suspicious derision.

That info could get you a beer in a lot of places, btw, and is a sure fire winner in any trivia contest you may get yourself into.

  3. kapgar says:

While Chad’s rationale is sound, there is no deterring me… BLACKHAWKS!!!!!

I’ve always loved that you love the Hawks, BTW.

  4. Matt says:

I know nothing about tv production, and even less about Hart to Hart…but those opening credits must have been very, very hard to duplicate from a technical point of view! Thanks for sharing!!

  5. martymankins says:

That’s rare Android gets a major app before the iOS platform does.
