Wintry

Posted on Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Dave! The winter storm that was promised yesterday finally arrived this morning. It didn't end up being as bad as forecast, but I still had to scrape 5-inches of snow off my car when it was time to go home tonight. Tomorrow is supposed to taper off to "Wintry Mix," which is not as fun as it sounds. The rain/snow combo piles on the streets and makes driving a nasty business. It's all too easy to get trapped by the slush accumulation and find yourself being pulled off the road. When that happens your brakes are practically useless, so your only option is to hold onto your balls, enjoy the slide, and hope you don't end up in a wreck. I'll take snow over "Wintry Mix" any day...

DAVETOON: Lil' Dave and Bad Monkey are covered in snow!

And right now I'll gladly take sleep over insomnia, but I have about as much a chance of that as I do controlling the weather.

If only I had an off-switch, my life would be so much easier.

  1. When I lived in Memphis, we’d get at least one week of the year where we’d have snow, then the “wintery mix” crap. Did. Not. Like. Those freakin peole didn’t know how to drive in the best conditions, add the slippery iciness that was that crap and it was an evil ballet of huge vehicles not so gracefully moving through the streets.

Once again with feeling…. Did. Not. Like!

My favorite is when the slush freezes and you have jagged ice peaks to drive over. I’m always afraid it’s going to rip my tires open. I’m not a fan!

wait! What happens if I am driving in a “wintry mix” and have no balls to grab?

    hee hee

wintry mix… not as fun as it sounds…

yeah tell me about it… wintry mix should be a disco club, like that one ice crystal place, ya know, where superman went to be stripped of his powers so he could be with louis lane.

only it wouldn’t be cold, just cool. with awesome lights and music and every one would get their groove thing on… all to the sounds of the wintry mix!

    😉

  5. I would *love* to say that I’d had to scrape 5 inches of snow off my car. Love it.

We are supposed to get snow soon. Yay! 😀

  7. Peggy Archer says:

Have you thought about a sleeping pill? I was resistant to the idea for a long time, but now if I can’t sleep I’ll take one.

Not every night, of course, but once does seem to stop the zombification.

And I’m so glad it doesn’t snow in LA.

    • Dave2 says:

I started taking sleeping pills on occasion a while back, and it was fine… for a while. But soon one pill wasn’t enough and I had to start taking two. Then it was three. Eventually they just stopped working. Every once in a while I try again, but they never seem to be as effective as they were when I was first using them. I thought about going to a doctor for Ambien (or whatever) but don’t like the idea of living with the possible side effects. One day I may have to change my mind. 🙁

We need some fresh snow here. The old dirty dingy snow is looking bad.
