Bullet Sunday 83

Posted on Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Dave! It's the crap-tastic edition of Bullet Sunday!

• Sickness. I am starting to worry about getting my cards printed. The first company I was going to print with didn't come clean about not being able to use a casino-quality black-core paper stock. The next company I found took forever to respond to even simple queries. I then found a third company that I really liked, but now I am having a hard time confirming anything. They have amazing credentials, and dozens of excellent references... so I'm confident everything will turn out fine... I'm just going crazy over when things are going to start happening. I worked so very hard on these cards (three months to get them all drawn), and I want so badly to make sure they print as perfectly as possible... but right now I'd settle for just getting them printed at all. I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing, but I'm just sick over a possible delay when all my other suppliers are lined up to deliver by the end of the month. Argh.

• Health. Not able to get in to see an allergist... not able to figure out what random foods or things in my environment are causing my allergic reactions... I finally gave in and started eating all the foods I had been cutting out of my diet because I thought they might be a problem. And nothing happened. Nothing. For two days now I've taken one Benadryl at night and one Claritin in the morning and that's it. No hives and no random welts. Is it too much to hope for that this was a temporary thing, and I'm all better now?

• Richer. I just made my final payment on my motorcycle, which I then turned around and sold because I can't ride it anymore. Isn't it cool how life can be both sweet and crappy at the same time?

The final bill payment for my motorcycle.

• Poorer. Shouldn't there be some kind of statute of limitations for how long they can keep billing you for medical shit? I mean, seriously, every time I think that I've got these bastards paid off, another bill shows up in the mail. Even better, I got a collection letter for one of the bills less than a month after I had received the actual bill. I guess they want to make sure you don't fall behind with all the bills they send, so they turn you in for collection if you don't remit immediate payment. I find it positively absurd that THIS is the state of health care in this country... I had the misfortune of surviving my kidney stone, so now I'm going to be billed to death? I should have put my fear of blood and needles behind me and become a doctor when I had the chance... it's the ultimate fountain of revenue wealth.

• Better. Code Monkeys debuted their second season today and it was a fricken' hilarious! — "My new game is called Cock Goblin! - That is bad-ass dude! Why not Goblin Cock? - That's a little hard for me to swallow!" — Where do they come up with this stuff?

• Worse. Also debuting today was the highly-anticipated (by me, anyway) Mary McCormack vehicle, In Plain Sight. Holy crap what a disaster. McCormack's lead character is trying so hard to be bad-ass, that she just ends up being plain bad. I kept hoping somebody would shoot her arrogant ass and the show would end. I'll watch a couple of more episodes just to make sure, but this does not bode well.

And that's all she wrote. Probably a good thing considering Sunday ends in 5 minutes.

  1. Penelope says:

I can’t get my head around how your health system works. You pay insurance but then you get billed too? Have I got that right?!
Fingers crossed for you on the allergies – maybe it was just a glitch :o)

  2. yellojkt says:

Goblin Cock? Sounds like the name of a porn Lord of the Rings knock-off?

  3. Sue says:

Maybe you’re allergic to something in the air around you? or a particular detergent or other ‘outside’ influence?

I hate to see people ‘try’ to be badass. If you are a badass, there is no try.

  4. Avitable says:

Well, I think doctors get fucked by the insurance companies, too, so I think your best bet is a high-ranking exec at a health insurance company.

  5. Mr. Fabulous says:

Cock Goblin? Were you in our bedroom last night?

  6. kapgar says:

Uh oh, and I DVRd In Plain Sight. Katie had a bad feeling about it and I doubt she’ll watch it, but I still may give it a shot.

    C’mon BURN NOTICE!

  7. Beth says:

Yea for the food!! I do hope it was a freak incident(s). That would be awesome!

  8. delmer says:

I’m sad to hear about In Plain Sight. The last thing I did before turning in last night was set the DVR to record one of the early-morning rebroadcasts. I’d missed the original airing.

  9. whall says:

I really wanna start Code Monkeys, so now I’ll have to remember to put it on my blockbuster queue. I don’t like joining a series in the middle.

Have I mentioned lately how appreciative I am of your perfectionist streaks when it comes to the stuff you make to sell?

  10. I am not kidding when I tell you that I had cancer 3 years ago and am still getting bills from that. I’m sure yours will stop before 3 years, I had lengthy treatments and then surgery again twice the next year, but it is ridiculous how long the bills keep coming! I think when you have to go through yucky medical stuff, they should give you stuff, not make you pay!

  11. Finn says:

I feel you on the medical bills. I’ve dealt with this crap over and over again for the last 10 years or so. It’s a neverending battle.

Weird about the allergy. Maybe it’s something else… wow, that’s helpful, isn’t it?

  12. Poppy says:

Are you getting married, Mr. Bullets?

  13. ChillyWilly says:

I really need to go find this show and watch it. That’s some funny ass writing.

  14. Lisa says:

I feel your pain on the medical bills. I’m starting to get so confused on what I owe to whom. I love the doctors that bill me because they have read an xray and have decided NOT to accept my insurance. Like I chose them to read my xray. Bastards.

I can’t wait for the cards to come out. Dude and I need some fun cards to play Rummy and Go Fish with while I’m having chemo administered for 3 to 6 hours at a time.

  15. Hilly Sue says:

I got your wedding invitation in the mail on Saturday and am so excited!

    (*snicker*)

  16. Robin says:

Darn, I TIVO’d In Plain Sight, but have not watched it yet. Sorry to hear you were disappointed. I thought it would be a good show.

  17. Tracy Lynn says:

Dude, the allergies may have been stress related, and, as one who is up to her ass in the health care hell, I can tell you that NONE OF IT IS RATIONAL. It’s all done by machines and any human you may come into contact with is an anomaly that can be safely ignored.

  18. Dave2 says:

The doctors I’ve seen tested for stress, even though I live a relatively stress-free life. There were no associated symptoms (things like blood pressure wasn’t just “normal,” I was told it’s “perfect”). When I called this morning, the new consensus is that I ate or was exposed to something in New York that had lingering effects that are only now dissipating. Whatever.

  19. claire says:

You know I’m with you regarding health care.

I was disappointed by In Plain Sight also. Too much VO needed to balance the myriad characters introduced. I’m hoping they find their stride within another couple eps, but I’m not sure how much whining/crying I can watch from her fam or protectees.

  20. Mel says:

Hey I have been lurking for a while, love your blog!

I have been in the hospital twice in 3 years and you would not believe all the bills i am still paying, thats WITH pretty decent insurance. Its crazy.

It could be something in the air thats causing the hives, it could be almost anything. I worked for a dermatologist a few years ago and he said you can develop an allergy to something you have never had any problems with at any time for no reason. Comforting.

  21. Bec says:

I feel your stress re suppliers in a slightly less important way. The guy who was doing the Scout t-shirts has not been answering my emails, or calls or (how terribly last century) faxes. I am starting to write the ‘Isn’t the world craptastic?’ letter to the parents, leaders, boys and girls in my head. Hoping I don’t have to write it for real.
Here’s hoping your supplier issues are sorted soon.

  22. Lewis says:

I’m very happy that you’re allergies are sort of under control. As for the statue of limitations of medical bills, it’s funny you’re mentioning it…because within the last 30 days, I’ve received TWO of them….from 15 months ago. Haven’t heard a thing in 15 months, no bills no phone calls no letters no NOTHIN’ and then…whammy….two bills. Weird.

  23. Troy says:

I’m glad I live in Canada. It may take them 8 hours to see me and tell me my appendix exploded but at least I didn’t have to pay anything for it.

  24. Gah! That was depressing. Especially the part about selling your motorcycle. Then again, when I see the way people drive while I’m on my bicycle, I feel like the decision makes you a whole lot safer.
