Bettybration

Posted on Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Dave! What an incredibly crappy day. I wish I could forget most of it ever happened.

As anybody who reads Blogography might guess from previous entries, I'm a major fan of Betty White. She totally kicks ass, and I maintain that every show on television could be improved by having Betty White guest star on it (as she's done many, many times before). The woman is fearless, talented, generous, kind and not above poking fun at herself... I hope I'm as relevant as she is when I get to be her age.

And today is Betty White's 86th birthday...

Happy Birthday Betty!

While sending your best wishes Betty's way, you might also want to give a shout-out to Miss Britt and Kentucky Girl, who share a birthday with her. It's an auspicious day to be born, that's for sure.

In other news, those of you with iPhones who have installed the latest update and make a WebClip Bookmark to Blogography will now get a nifty custom icon. Just be sure to pause when the screen comes up to name your shortcut so it has a chance to load...

IPhone Davecon

For other iPhone goodness, you can also find Blogography wallpaper here (in an extended entry). Eventually, I'll get around to creating a custom version of my blog for easier reading and access by iPhone users. It works pretty well now, but I think there's some things I can do with the navigation and layout to make it even better.

Sigh. I ♥ my iPhone, but I sure wish they would let you adjust the exposure of photos taken with its camera.

Earlier today I was reviewing my DaveStalker iPhone Flickr Feed and got a little depressed. From time to time, when the lighting is perfect, you get a really great shot, but the majority of the images are all dark and murky. Sure it's better than nothing, but it seems stupid that Apple can't give you a slider to brighten things up a bit when needed. Perhaps they'll put that in the next upgrade?

Hmmm... I think I need me some Oreo cookies and milk before bedtime. That will make everything all better.

  1. You’re always a step ahead! Sent you a link via Facebook with instructions about how to make WebClip iPhone icons, but you already figured it out, smartie-pants.

  2. sizzle says:

woah betty was a looker! i mean she’s a pretty lady now but hubba hubba.

oreos and milk make most things better i have found.

  3. Happy birthday Betty 🙂

  4. Paul says:

Ditto’s for Ms Betty! Now THERE’S a W for President. Heck – she put St Olaf on the map!

  5. ichi says:

I used you in your underwear picture.
    You should, too.

  6. apricoco says:

happy birthday betty, and happy birthday to me.. she and I have the same birthday!

  7. Avitable says:

Damn you. Now I want some milk and cookies!

  8. borysSNORC says:

    ARRRGHHH!
Please no more iPhone torture! We don’t have them and are unlikely to see them here for months yet 🙁

  9. Bre says:

I adore the fact that her hairdo remains unchanged. Now that’s “timeless!”

  10. Lewis says:

Happy happy Betty! One of the world’s greatest. Someone just told me yesterday that I-phone can’t even send phone to phone pictures…is that possibly right? Seems so basic. As for Oreos… they don’t do a thing for me….except for those yummy JoJos from Trader Joes…with the PEPPERMINT ICING IN THE MIDDLE. Now, where’s a hot cup of tea to go with them.

  11. Dave2 says:

iPhone does not yet allow MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) for texting photos… but it does make it dead-easy to email photos anywhere you want (which is how I get my photos to my Flickr iPhone Photo Feed).

  12. yellojkt says:

You talk about Betty White, but don’t even link to a picture of her naked. You’re slipping, dude.

  13. Dave2 says:

    Yeah, I’m classy like that…

  14. Whit says:

Dude, how did you make the WebClip icon? That is awesome! I just have screenshots and they are hard to make out.

  15. bogup says:

How about a Dave2 screen saver or wallpaper?
Or maybe I’ll snap a pic of the Bad Monkey T and use that…

  16. Wayne says:

You complaining about your day – typical Dave.

And then the Betty White shrine was right on target, for something Dave might do, that is.

The iPhone segue was also very Dave-like, and I’m sure many people bought it.

The self-promotional links, suggestions, wallpaper and webclip icons are a _little_ out of Dave’s typical “look at me, be me, watch me” attitude towards life, but hey, everyone might have an off day now and again.

But you said “oreo cookies and milk”. In true Columbo fashion, I’m going to call BS. YOU ARE NOT DAVE. This post is from an imposter! Please stop hacking into Dave’s account and posting as him.

You see, the real Dave would have said “Golden Oreos.” That was your fatal flaw in your otherwise brilliant li’l scheme.

  17. Phil says:

Thanks for the tip about making a custom iPhone icon. I made one this morning for phillustrations.com!

  18. No wonder I love Betty White so much. 🙂 We’re twins!

  19. Darci says:

I am always grabbing a Dave graphic and sticking it on my desktop…with credit to you of course.

And yet another reason I am needing me an iPhone, love the icon.

  20. Brandon says:

You seem to neglect the fact that Apple makes other products besides the iPhone. For example, I am writing this comment on an iPod Touch.

By the way the icon works perfectly on an iPod with the $20 upgrade (that makes it an iPhone without the phone).

  21. Dave2 says:

Wait… Apple makes things other than iPhone?!?

I say as I type this on a MacBook over Apple’s Airport wireless while listening to my iPod Shuffle and watching photographs served off my Mac mini. 😀

  22. Brandon says:

So now you remember the little devices. Just don’t neglect them any more or you may see a retaliation. They don’t like to be forgotten

  23. Dave2 says:

I didn’t forget. I don’t own an iPod Touch, and built the icon for my iPhone because that’s what I have. If it works for other devices… like iPod Touch or Zune or whatever new stuff Apple comes up with in the future, then that’s great.
