Hero

Posted on Saturday, December 29th, 2007

Dave!Is there anything more terrifying than having a few drinks and playing Guitar Hero?

I suck ass at even the "easy" level, and alcohol doesn't seem to help.

Dave Hero

In happier news, I finally saw the film Kinky Boots and am absolutely astounded at the acting ability (flexibility?) of Chiwetel Ejiofor. The guy is amazingly talented. His role as "The Operative" in Serenity is by far my favorite, but his playing the transvestite "Lola" in Kinky Boots blew my mind. Now I am really wanting to see Dirty Pretty Things.

Despite being rainy and a bit depressing, the weather in Seattle is still a massive improvement over Spokane.

I loved Kinky Boots. European actors have it all over the ‘ricans. (that’s what they call us in France)

  2. Laurence says:

Dirty Pretty Thing is a good “black” movie… Thriller… Tautou is magnifique.

  3. Lisa says:

How about being SOBER and playing Guitar Hero? At least I’m in my living room and only have to contend with being made fun of by my husband.

  4. ajooja says:

Ejiofor is a very talented actor. I think you’ll really like Dirty Pretty Things. I did.

  5. Hilly Sue says:

Dirty Pretty Things was definitely an interesting movie that you should see, especially since the lovely Audrey Tatou is in it, of course :).

I can’t play Guitar Hero sober. There’s just something about the pressure of being a rock star that makes me want to “coke up”. 😉

  6. Lewis says:

How long are you going to be in Seattle?

  7. Gecko Rock says:

I’m a geek. Whenever I see Chiwetel Ejiofor in a movie, I say, “Hey, that’s that guy from Serenity!”

  8. kapgar says:

Oh, Dave, Dirty Pretty Things is fantastic! I know you love Audrey Tautou and if you like Chiwetel this much, you’ll love this film. HIGHLY recommended.

  9. Dagny says:

Yes, do see Dirty Pretty Things.

  10. Suzanne says:

You made a cameo appearance in one of dreams last night. It was very bizarre, especially considering we’ve never actually met face-to-face.

Maybe it’s because you’re here in Seattle. Maybe your Guitar Hero vibe carried through the atmosphere or sumpin.

I dunno. But, you were quite entertaining in the dream, though.

  11. delmer says:

I suck so badly at Guitar Hero that I’ve considered doing a Jimi and setting the Guitar afire.

  12. Cheeseycom says:

Don’t forget Chiwetel’s part in ‘Love Actually’ as well.. I still find it hard to believe he’s that same guy as the Operative.

I know someone who actually gets better at guitar hero the more he drinks.. although he’s some kind of musical savant and an insane guitar genius, which might have something to do with it.

What I always wonder is how he can still walk after drinking and playing for a few hours.. that ‘rising vision’ effect that occurs after playing for a while makes me stumble around when I’m dead sober!

  13. diane says:

I must chime in on the Dirty Pretty Things chorus. I am surprised you haven’t seen it!! It’s very, very good.
Try playing Rockband drunk. With a group of guys who think being good at video games is the be all end all of the universe.

  14. Wayne says:

Dude, your guitar is awesome! I want a limited-edition DaveToon Gibson!!! PLEASE!!!!

Did you play it on the Wii, PS3, XBOX or PS2? And have you tried SingStar? or Rock Band?

  15. tori says:

My 7 year old daughter is kicking my ass at guitar hero, so I would say that is worse, right?

Hope you have a happy new year!

  16. SJ says:

Bret and I experienced Guitar Hero for the first time on Christmas Day (as audience). I don’t care how much I like a song, hearing the same four bars of it over and over and over ad nauseum is a nightmare. I’m going to run like hell if anyone mentions playing Guitar Hero to me again.

  17. kapgar says:

Hey, can I make a Blogography marketing suggestion? Create Blogography themed faceplates for Wii GHIII guitars! I’d buy one… or more depending on what you make!

    Bad Monkey as Slash!!!!!
