Bullet Sunday 62

Posted on Sunday, December 30th, 2007

Dave! It's the last Bullet Sunday of 2007! I am so ready for this year to be over.

Guitar Hero. After a bit of practice, I finally got 100% on Pat Benetar's Hit Me With Your Best Shot on Guitar Hero 3. Thinking this meant I was ready to move up from "easy" level, I hopped up to "medium" difficulty and sucked horribly. I think I'm done with this game now, and get a bit depressed when I see videos on YouTube of kids hitting 100% with "expert" level on impossibly difficult songs. I shudder to think how much practice it takes to rock this hard.

Presidential. Is it bad that I haven't decided on a presidential candidate yet? It seems everybody has made their choice except me. I really like Barack Obama after reading his book The Audacity of Hope, but am not 100% with him yet. On issues alone, I'm leaning toward McCain, but can never forgive him for abandoning our POWs (ironic since he was one), and would never vote for him. Rudy Giuliani got endorsed by televangelist whack-job hater Pat Robertson, which means I won't even consider him as a candidate. About the only thing I'm sure of is that I don't want to see Mike Huckabee in office... he seems to have little interest in representing ALL Americans as president. As if his blatant homophobia and tendency to speak out of ignorance about AIDS and other important issues wasn't bad enough, he just seems like a total jerk. I can't imagine how much worse our international relations would become with Huckabee in power, which is saying a lot after the complete and total devastation suffered under President Bush. Sigh. I loathe our two-party system, and feel we will never get the best person for the job in office so long as candidates have to cater to their political affiliations to get elected.

Juno. Hands-down best movie of the year is Juno. What an amazing film, and what an astounding triumph for director Jason Reitman, who's previous film Thank You For Smoking was also genius. He seems to be taking a very different path than his father (Ivan Reitman, who hasn't had a decent film since Dave in 1993), and I can't wait to see what he does next.

Watching. In other movie news... Zack Snyder, please please please don't screw this up...

Watchmen Poster

Eh... not a lot of bullets today, but there's not a lot going on right now. How totally cool is that?

  2. Bec says:

Just a quick comment to say thank you for being wonderful for another year! Happy New Years! All the best for 2008! X

  3. Avitable says:

Juno was definitely amazing. Have you seen Hard Candy?

From the reports so far, Watchmen seems like it might not be too bad. They’re even doing the pirate story!

  4. the patient says:

Well, hope your new year is better than the previous year. My new year forecast is undoubtedly to be the same–fasten your set belt, turbulence expected ahead.

  5. Suzy says:

Hillary is going to get the nod. It’s time to let a woman try and screw up as much as men have for the last 200+ years. Not sure that’s possible but I’m willing to give her a shot.

  6. Jeff says:

Funny. I tried expert mode on that song and was shut down before the intro was over.

  7. Lewis says:

No HUCKABEE and no ROMNEY. I’m not sure where that leaves us. And I don’t see any huge, giant ELECTABLE contenders on the Dems side. Sigh. (Did I ever mention that things can actually get worse than where we are today…..they can, you know.) HNY

  8. Hilly says:

I’ve not decided which, but my vote is either going to Hilary or Obama. I know it is not politically correct to say this, but fuck it…I cannot see one more white-haired, old assed, white dude sitting there ruining our country. At least one of them will spice it up. Uh besides, I do like both of them although I lean a little more towards Obama.

    And uh, yeah…Juno = yay!

  9. Wayne says:

100% on easy of any song is a great accomplishment. I had finished the game on Expert, and even got 5 stars on a lot of Expert songs, but it took me FOREVER to get 100% on most of the Easy songs. I’m good, but I’m not _consistently good_ for the whole song. I inevitably miss a note here or there, but I get enough of a streak to get enough points to 5* most stuff.

    It’s so incredibly addictive.

re: presidential election, aren’t we ready for a computer to run the country yet? Like HAL or something?

  10. Michelle says:

Happy New Year. I hope you have the best year possible.

  11. Silvertongue says:

Add me to the list of people who loved Juno! Saw it yesterday and was so pleased it was touching, intelligent, and humorous all in one movie. I have high hopes for Jason Reitman!

Happy New Year, Dave! Here’s to a happy and healthy 2008!

  12. Suzy says:

I’m with Hilly, no more old-assed white dudes in charge.

AND LOOK MA! MY GRAVATAR IS WORKING!

Happy New Year Dave, if that is your real name.

  13. ajooja says:

We just got back from seeing Juno and I couldn’t agree more. It was great.

    Happy New Year, Dave!

  14. kilax says:

Wah! I want to see Juno 🙁 I hope I have time to make it to the theater soon. Maybe if I tell Steven that DAVE liked it, he will want to see it!

  15. ChillyWilly says:

Obama is the closest thing to what this country needs. Of course, it would be nice to see this guy run, but I’d rather see him continue his efforts to clean up the environment than get involved in the petty political B.S. of the elections.

  16. yellojkt says:

I keep telling people that Watchmen would be so much better and truer to the concept as a ten hour mini-series.

  17. SJ says:

I just don’t think Obama has enough experience yet. I’m voting for Hillary, and when her terms are up, Obama should be seasoned enough.

  18. Webmiztris says:

can’t wait to see Juno. and I LOVED Thank You For Smoking – the movie AND the book!

  19. Belinda says:

As an Arkansan who suffered through years of The Huckster as governor (seriously, America–let some other state’s governors run for President for a while), I can tell you that everything that’s come out nationally aside, what you have to be concerned about from Huck is ETHICS. As in, his are pretty flexible when it comes to being in political office. A local paper did a segment called “Ethics Held Hostage,” week after week, waiting for Huck to hold himself accountable for numerous violations…it just went on and on, and he never did answer up. I hope someone starts asking him some HARD questions soon, and actually making him ANSWER them instead of getting sidetracked by his corn-pone “humor.”

  20. Who Watches the Watchmen!?! I’ve been waiting for this movie for 20+ years.

The book is just so complicated, it’ll be interesting to see how they lay it all out.

The odd thing though is that a few of the main premisses of the book were also in The Incredibles. I just kept thinking that while I was watching The Incredibles (in a much more cheerier, colorful animated way of course).
