Vote!

Posted on Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Dave!Gah! I guess that the other crap I was going to write about today will have to wait...

The bitches over at Bette Midler Online have retaliated against Cupid being in 1st place on the Sony DVD poll! What I find funny is that these people are voting for Bette! simply because Bette Midler is in it... not because it was a great show or anything. Personally, I don't even remember the show... but when I research it, I find out that it was not well-liked, even by Bette Midler fans. so WTF? Cupid, on the other hand, was critically acclaimed, and could have built an audience had ABC not totally f#@%ed up the scheduling so people couldn't find it. Case in point... out of a possible 10 stars on the Internet Movie Database, Bette! garners 3.6 stars, whereas Cupid has twice as many... 7.3 stars.

I maintain that Cupid is the best show ever to air on television, and explain why in this entry.

In any event, If you love me... heck, even if you hate me, you'll please take ten seconds and go to Sony's NEW & IMRPROVED poll for DVD releases, where you now only have to vote for ONE show instead of choosing two other crappy shows to go with it... IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT'S GOOD IN THE WORLD, GO VOTE FOR CUPID RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW!!!

Vote Cupid

Did you vote? YOU DIDN'T?!? DO IT! DO IT NOW!!!

There. That's much better. Cupid got to the top once, it can be there again with your help.

Good news on the AppleCare front... despite the fact that I called on a Saturday afternoon with my MacBook Pro hard drive problem, my return-box from Apple Support arrived today. Amazing. If nothing goes sideways, I'll have my laptop back before I leave. Loves me the Apple. It makes the fact that Hewlett Packard couldn't get me a freakin' return-label after THREE calls over TWO months (and untold hours on hold) all the more pathetic. HP sucks ass.

  1. Mia says:

I’ve never even seen the show Cupid, but I keep voting for ya. It was still slightly behind Bette, by about 2 points.

  2. I voted. Dunno what the show is, but I voted just for little ole you. Happy? Good.

  3. Mooselet says:

Done! Cupid is just slightly behind Bette at this point. We’ll totally kick their ass.

  4. Chopsticks says:

Done, Cupid is still behind Bette! but I’m sure it will pull ahead again. As I have never seen Cupid and you speak so highly of it, I would really like it to be released…

  5. NetChick says:

Okay, okay! I voted. But only because you asked so damn nicely. Sheesh.

  6. I love how this entry became like “The Monster at the End of this Book”, with you calling us on not voting, right after asking us to vote. No worries, I voted.

  7. Anthony says:

Voted three times thanks to remote connections. πŸ™‚ I’m about five episodes into the series at the moment. Great show.

  8. Kapha says:

    Voted 3 times for Cupid.

Do I get some pudding with a cookie now? πŸ™‚

  9. serap says:

I voted too. I have no interest at all in Cupid, despite your constant rattling on about it, but I voted anyway… cos I’m a helpful little soul!

  10. RW says:

This is the second time I have backed you up in a vote I have no idea what I’m voting for. Here in Chicago, that means you now owe me fourteen jobs with the county for my “friends” and a kickback from the next road resurfacing contract.

Are you sure Cupid is worth all this? We’ll be back to collect someday.

Youse have a good day. See ya later.

  11. Dave H says:

Voted – I voted before too, and then made a point of watching the pilot episode of Cupid. Before my vote was a favour to you, now it’s because I’d actually like to see this released on DVD! πŸ™‚

    Current results:
    The $treet – 12.7%
    Bette! – 22.33%
    Michael Hayes – 8.89%
    What’s Happening Now! – 10.96%
    The Rookies – 10.93%
    Police Story – 13.28%
    Cupid – 20.88%

  12. Avitable says:

Who would have thought the drag queen contingency was so large that they could hold their own against the Blogography Cupid lovers?

  13. Patrick says:

I think Sony’s programmers was a bit sloppy when creating the poll system. If you block cookies from sonypictures.com in your web browser it seems to let you vote over and over and over again.
It looks like it works, because after I had voted 20-30 times Cupid’s quote increased from 20.89 to 20.92 per cent.

Might be worth trying, heh? πŸ™‚

  14. Patrick says:

    Or even better, still!

    Just point your browser here.

and hit refresh until we’ve taken over the poll… πŸ˜€

  15. ms. sizzle says:

    i voted. do i get a sticker?

  16. Karl says:

For you, my friend, (almost) anything.

  17. karla says:

ok OK OK! I voted already! NO NEED TO YELL!

    Sheesh…

So…um…now that I voted, when do I get my picture of a naked Jeremy Piven? I DO get that for voting, don’t I?

  18. jodisattva says:

    Done.

    Cupid is at 21.85%
    Bette is 22.05%

We have her on the run.

  19. diane says:

    Wait…let’s back up here.
The Bette fans are in the wrong b/c they only want the DVD released because of its star…
But it’s okay for us to rig the election and vote ignorantly and come up with ways to vote more than once because the show is critically acclaimed?
    I’m…not following…

  20. Avitable says:

    Patrick, nicely done.

    Cupid is now winning!

  21. suze says:

alright, I voted. Bette has 22.05% of the vote. Cupid now has 22.07%. I hope I was that .02% that pushed cupid into the lead….

  22. Dave2 says:

    Diane…

I never said that Bette Midler fans were wrong for supporting a star they like, and don’t really understand how you got that impression. I simply stated that Bette (the show) was not well-received, apparently even by Bette Midler fans. If you are a Bette Midler fan AND loved the show, then by all means vote for it to be released on DVD.

To be clear… I am not asking anybody to “rig the election.” If you hated “Cupid” then please don’t vote for it.

If you’ve never heard of the show, then please DO vote… because the only way you will ever get a chance to watch it is if it comes out on DVD. You may be “ignorant” of the show NOW, but if it is released on DVD you can form your own opinion (and I really hope that people who vote are curious enough about my obsession to rent or buy it).

I am assuming that all the people whom I’ve got to liking Veronica Mars (and other shows I’ve written about) appreciate being told of great television because I get “thank-you” notes from people who have discovered shows because of Blogography all the time.

Well, Cupid is the best television show I have ever seen, so why wouldn’t I want to get people to help get it on DVD?

I am not asking people to blindly vote… I spent an entire entry explaining why they might enjoy the show, giving them a REASON to vote. Whether people choose to do so is entirely up to them.

Besides, as I have said, if the show is released on DVD, I’ll be giving away copies as prizes in raffles and contests. I’m not asking people to vote just to get my way (I’ve seen the show and have every episode on tape). I’m doing this to expose people to a television show that deserves to be seen… and I will be spending my own money to make sure that happens. πŸ™‚

  23. diane says:

    Dave–
It was these two lines that caused me to read condescension toward those voting for the Bette Midler show:
“Those bitches over at Bette Midler online line…”
    and
“What I find funny is that people are voting for Bette simply because Bette Midler was in it.”

Hopefully most people here are voting for Cupid multiple times (still bothered by that, but assuming people voting for other shows are doing the same) because they want to see the show, not because they are Dave fans and therefore are just supporting your wishes.

No harm meant, Dave. I don’t think you had anything but good intentions, I just found it funny that voting for Bette because Bette is in it is any different than voting for Cupid because Dave told us to. Which I know is not your intention. And hopefully no one is doing that.

  24. Walt says:

    Dave:

Right now the bright idea to have an online poll is hitting some Sony Exec in the face and he’s hating you with all the power of all the Bette fans in the world! This call to the masses has me a little worried for future of Dave-Topia. The Davoties seemed to have taken on the mob mentality for a moment. I admit I voted and have never seen the show!

    Walt

  25. Robin says:

I voted…and I have never seen the show.

  26. kapgar says:

You’ve got a slim lead going so we’d better keep it up…

    The $treet 12.4%
    Bette! 21.98%
    Michael Hayes 8.7%
    What’s Happening Now! 10.69%
    The Rookies 10.74%
    Police Story 13%
    Cupid 22.46%

  27. Harold says:

OK, you got one more vote for “Cupid” !

  28. Patrick says:

Harold, why only one? I’ve cast my vote at least 1000 times by now πŸ™‚

  29. Rikki says:

Ok – it’s official!! .50% better than Bette! It was me ok? I did it…just for you!

  30. stephanie says:

And, with my vote, Cupid is now ahead! 22.64% VS 22.53% for Bette!

    Woot!!

  31. Tal says:

Heh, I love “The Monster at the end of this Book”….

I have never even HEARD of the other shows… Were they real shows? Did they actually exist? At least you don’t have to vote for “mythical” shows, that’s existence has yet to be proven….

  32. Rosalie says:

Ok, ok. You convinced me, I voted. I also remember Cupid, while I can’t say the same for the other shows. Fingers crossed that Cupid makes the cut!

  33. Wayne Hall says:

In case you were wondering what the score was, I went ahead and sold you my integrity by voting for a show I’ve never seen.

Cupid’s at 27.98% and Bette! is at 27.4%.

  34. Patrick says:

Man, it’s hard to keep up with those Bette Midler fans. Every time I’ve been away from the computer Bette always has surged past Cupid – just because a few Bette Midler fan sites are urging their visitors to vote for Bette several times a day.

Now I’m voting for Cupid a couple of hundred times a day myself (bookmarked the vote and open them in multiple tabs) πŸ™‚

  35. Rebecca says:

hey hang on a second for one –
“The bitches over at Bette Midler Online” I actually run that site, and I really have to object to that, I have never said anything bad about cupid, or YOU for that matter, in fact if you read the last post I encouraged Bette fans to stop it all, and I actually defended you! stupid me!
second – what makes you think Bette fans are just voting for it because of her? I actually really liked the series, no matter what the critics or Bette herself says about it, and that is why I was voting and encouraging other Bette fans to vote. You can’t speak of what motivates people if you don’t know them. Your comments are very unfair.

  36. Dave2 says:

Uhhh… I was joking in this entry. I’d thought that was apparent in the language, but if you took offense, I apologize.

Before I wrote that post, I did some research about the show “Bette!” because I had never heard of it before. As I mentioned, I was surprised to learn that many Bette Midler fans themselves did not like the show, and it was not critically raved about. When I came to your site, I was even MORE surprised to find that you give no information about the show. You don’t tell people WHY they should vote… just that they should vote because Bette was in it. I, on the other hand, went into painful detail to tell people why I think that they should vote for the show, what made it so great, why they will like it, and why people should want to see it on DVD.

If you read in my comments, you’ll see that I am not encouraging people to vote blindly. In fact, I clearly say that if you are a fan of “Bette!” then that’s the show you should vote for.

All I can hope is that Sony sees the passion we both have for our respective shows, and decides to release them BOTH on DVD! πŸ™‚
