Frolic

Posted on Friday, November 24th, 2006

Dave!I don't like to shop. My dislike for shopping only increases as the crowds get bigger, so going to the mall on Black Friday would be the equivalent of torture. Thankfully I had to work today. Because when people call and say "could you pick up something for me while you're out" I'd much rather be able to say "I'm sorry, I'm working today" instead of saying "FRAK OFF AND DIE BECAUSE THERE'S NO F#@%ING WAY I'M PICKING UP ANYTHING FOR YOU ON BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND!" I dunno. I guess it just sounds nicer.

All that being said, I'd rather be in Bali laying on Kuta Beach...

Kutabali

I'd write about how the occasion arose today where I used the word "frolic" in a totally justifiable context, but it's 11:15pm and and I have to be to work in five hours and forty-five minutes.

Two hours of that will be spent trying to fall asleep.

Sadly, that’s what Bali looks like these days – tourism is way down. I’d rather be there as well.

  2. timothy says:

Before reading a single word of your post, I looked at the photo of that amazing strand of beach and thought, “I’d much rather be frolicking on that beach than here.” (Here being my classroom on a Saturday morning reviewing papers and making plans. Lots-o-fun.) No mad shopping day here on Friday–maybe a little vodka.

  3. sultana says:

I think I’d rather be at the beach too. Over here, we have beautiful white sands. Anyway, I actually had a pleasant shopping day today. I didn’t wake up before the sun, though, and I certainly didn’t go to the malls. That would have been suicide, for sure!

  4. Laurence says:

Dave, Dave… If you ask me to choose between shopping AND walking “naked feet” on this beach, feeling hot sand under my feet, looking at the blue horizon, listening to the little waves, feeling little iodized breeze of the sea on my face… If you REALLY ask me to choose, I will answer you without hesitating that I prefer THE BEACH !!! Oh OUI, LA PLAGE !!! 🙂
(I also think that all human will answer you the same thing)

Your photo suddenly depressed me… Pfffffffff, I want to be inside this picture immediately, NOW !!!

  5. RW says:

I see little Dave and Monkey waaaaaay back there!

    Or is that Elvis?

  6. Jon says:

You have to be at work at 5 AM on the Saturday of a holiday weekend?

Dude, you need a new job.

I’m with you on the shopping, particularly on Black Friday weekend. Thank goodness for Amazon.com.

  7. Mark says:

Who wouldn’t rather be in Bali laying on Kuta Beach?

  8. David says:

Found you on Jennifer’s site. I really like the layout although my screen is smaller and I have to scroll (ok my computer is lame it’s only 10 years old.)

I am with you on Black Friday, but I guess that is sort of given considering how long I have had my computer.

  9. delite says:

I love the deals for Black Friday, hate the other shoppers tho’..oh, I came across this and thought of you for some reason! 🙂

  10. delmer says:

I shopped at Ace Hardware yesterday. I saw John Madden on TV and he mentioned that Ace had something I wanted.

I strolled in around 2 p.m. and, naturally, they were out of what I wanted. But, they were ordering more and, as I was willing to prepay, I got the sale price … saving $50.00.

I was in and out in 10 minutes.

Of course, I figured Ace Hardware would be sort of a low-traffic store. There’s no way I’d have gone near a mall or a Wal-Mart or almost anywhere else.

  11. The Chad says:

How long did you have to think about a proper term for frolic?

  12. nancycle says:

    O.M.G.

That would be so absolutely frickin perfect right now…I’d say you have no idea, but clearly YOU DO! Whining: Ohhhoho…Not fair! I wanna go away!!

I’ve done my fair share of avoiding malls, but I’m not familar with “Black Friday”…

Before I comment and stick my foot in my mouth…Also wondering, is it always that way for you before bed?

  13. Kevin says:

I love the word “frolic.” Fun little word. Dangerous on occasion as well. But still fun.

  14. I love shopping but even I have refrained from going anywhere the last 2 days. I would hate to get the crap beat out of me by people who have camped out for a digital camera.

  15. adena says:

    Now I’m really jealous.

I’ve never seen a beach like that. 🙁

  16. lol, i can totally relate…and that’s exactly why we choose to spend the week of Thanksgiving in the Caribbean. 😀
