Inserted

Posted on Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

Dave!First of all, to anybody watching How I Met Your Mother last night, you should know that the idea of putting a skyscraper in Spokane is laughable. The tallest building there now is like twenty stories or so, which means a skyscraper dropped in the city would be kind of ridiculous. Secondly, for anybody who watched The Class after How I Met Your Mother had aired... WHY?!? OH LORD, WHY?? I've seen bad television before, but this is borderline tragic. I cannot fathom how The Class was ever greenlit (it makes the awful Help Me Help You look brilliant). I am worried that HIMYM ratings are going to suffer because of its crappy lead-out, and hope that they cancel this steaming pile and put on something funny.

For my own amusement, Spokane's new skyline with a skyscraper inserted...

Wow. That's actually pretty cool. I never realized how badly Spokane needs a skyscraper.

  1. Heh. Yeah, Spokane needs a skyscraper as much as San Francisco needs one. Earthquakes and all.

BTW, where is the reflection of the building in the pool?

    ~ducks and runs out~

  2. Dave2 says:

The skyscraper is too far back to cast a reflection… which is sad, because that would have been fun to do! 🙂

  3. Jeff says:

Just hope that visitors wouldn’t feel like the city is giving them one big giant finger. I’ll leave the fallac comments to the others…

  4. Dave2 says:

I don’t know if correcting the spelling of “phallic” is something I feel comfortable with…

  5. Ohmygod. Someone else watches this show and is concerned about its time slot … I thought I was the only one.

I love How I Met Your Mother. And I hate The Class.

  6. Nicole says:

I’m only disappointed you didn’t insert the skyscraper exactly as described on the show. That would have been funny. 🙂

I just discovered HIMYM and so far I love it. I caught up on the end of last season (which I guess was the first season) over the summer.

And I have to admit I don’t hate “The Class”. I’m not saying its great TV, but I’m one of those morons who dream about having a 3rd grade class reunion and rubbing my classmates faces in my success. Of course before that happens I’m going to have to become successful at something…

  7. Bre says:

Oh man! I was hoping that you’d produce the phallic skyscraper! 😛

  8. Cool pic, but that skyscraper doesn’t look like it’s made out of pink marble AT ALL.
    😉

Since getting a DVR I quit worrying about timeslots and lead ins because now I am in control (insert evil laughter here), and I have never seen what follows HIMYM because it looked like a big bag of suck in commercials. I honestly think HIMYM will be fine, and they’ll dump the crap soon enough.

  9. Kimberly says:

Umm, maybe if Spokane had a phallic skyscraper, I’d like it here 😉

  10. Dave2 says:

Okay, there was no way I was constructing a giant penis-shaped building made out of pink marble… Spokane has it hard enough as it is!

  11. Hilly says:

    Hilly Carnes, Architecbt.

The ONLY thing to pull me out of my funk last night was CBS Comedy but yes, “The Class” must go. I need another Barney, Charlie or even another Christine…but mostly a Barney ;).

  12. Brandon says:

Imagine the view from up there! You could see…you could see…you could see…Oh fuck it. There’s nothing to see. It’s Spokane for god’s sake. Hey look! I see meth labs!!!

  13. Kapha says:

“Spokane has it hard enough as it is!”

I’m not *even* touching that one, Dave…

    OMG! A quadruple-entendre!! Aieeeeeee!!!!

  14. moe says:

I’m totally with you Dave…I was so ticked when they swapped the time slots of HIMYM and The Class. It’s just wrong. So very wrong.

  15. kapgar says:

I was hoping you would comment considering the Washington link and the fawning over Field of Dreams. All I could think of was what your reaction would be if you were sitting there during those conversations. Dave and Barney… classic.

  16. Amity says:

I second Kapha, and like Nicole, I don’t HATE “The Class.” I think it beats “The King of Queens,” which is what used to be there.

  17. ms. sizzle says:

    how very. . . phallic.

  18. Doug says:

I’ve been really enjoying HIMYM – the former Doogie Howser to Barney character is a hoot! I haven’t yet sat through a full episode of “The Class”. Apparently it is too boring for me to bother with disliking it. From your description it seems to compare well with “According to Jim”, a show that I have yet to understand how it made it past two episodes. Was ATJ supposed to be a comedy?

  19. delmer says:

Coming out of downtown and going north on Summit (maybe … it’s been a while and Summit may be one-way going south).

Anyway, Columbus has an old smoke stack that looks so much like a penis that you can’t look at it and not think it looks like a penis. The top part anyway — I’ve never been near the bottom.

  20. Miss Britt says:

Hey! Shoosh! I haven’t watched the TiVoe’d HIMYM yet!

  21. Alexa says:

OMG I watched that show and couldn’t believe they were talking about Spokane! I kept wondering if there was another budding metropolis by the same name. . .no wait the writers are just impaired.

  22. Laurence says:

Oh, Dave, oh Dave… What can I say ?
The only building that I know is “Tour Montparnasse“…

  23. lol, I don’t find The Class to be any worse than Old Christine or whatever. No sitcoms are really that good anymore…they’re all pretty blah-zay IMO.

  24. shannon says:

The class is dumb. Let’s talk about VM.. What are you thinking about the new season thus far?

  25. yellojkt says:

I missed HIMYM last night, but I like the show. Traditionally, the better and older shows get the 8:00 and 9:00 time slots with the crappy shows stuck in at 8:30 and 9:30 on the assumption you’re not going to change channels to watch the second half of CSI or whatever else is on.

Somehow The Class got the good time slot until the ratings started diving. The Washington Post explained the “hammock” theory last week.

  26. Amity says:

Oh yeah, and all I could think about during that entire episode is the old “cock and balls” in my hometown: http://www.shipbrook.com/jeff/blog/images/FloridaStateCapitol.jpg

Yeah, and Dawn’s right about “Old Christine.”

  27. nancycle says:

    Heavens to mergatroids…

  28. You should have put the skyscraper they suggested in that episode 🙂

I agree The Class is bad. BUT I find it oddly appealing. I think because those people remind me of people I know and I think it’s the theme of the show that makes (helps?) me to put in names and faces I haven’t seen in a long time.
