Mini

Posted on Friday, May 19th, 2006

Dave! And so I went and bought an Intel Duo-Core Mac Mini.

I guess this won't be very surprising... I am a total Mac whore. Me buying something from Apple is about as shocking as water being wet. What is somewhat surprising is that I bought the little guy to be a media server. It's hooked up to my television, and has a copy of all my music, photos, videos, movies, and even a complete backup of my current work files. I can access all of it from any room in my apartment via wireless. Eventually I'll have it set up so I can access it remotely over the internet as well. It does everything a "real" server does, but is remarkably small...

Mac Mini

It's so small, that I think I could probably fit six of them into my Mac G4 Cube, which was the smallest computer I had owned to date. The cool thing is that it seems quite a bit faster as well.

And now I am off to wash clothes so I can get my suitcase packed this weekend. But before I go...

Just a reminder that I was a guest blogger over at Chasing Vincenzo yesterday. At least it was supposed to be yesterday, except I couldn't get my entry to post, so it's actually this morning. So if you just can't get enough of my nonsense, here's a link to RW's blog.

You buying Apple products is as shocking as me buying Apple products…and the whole water thing, too.

I hope you thoroughly enjoy your new Mac Mini. That baby is on the “must-have” list in my home, it’s just a matter of saving up the cash.

I look forward to reading about your many adventures in Mac Mini Land.

  2. Rob says:

Dude! You are doing exactly what I am doing. I have a G4 mini that will soon be serving my music and video files also! the only crappy part is I had to hack in FrontRow so I could use a remote. And to top it all off, I upgraded to a g4 iBook. It will be here monday.

Unfortunately I too am slowly becoming a mac whore. I wonder if they have support groups for this.

  3. James D. says:

I want to be a mac whore, the newest ipod has made me an Apple fan, but my gaming needs fall into the realm of the PC.

That is the coolest, most bad-assed davetoon ever.

    • Peter says:

Hey man, you can run Virtual PC 7 on a mac, also virtual Box by oracle, it’s free and to me it is alot better, also now the new intel macs have boot camp, great stuff

  4. Caitie says:

I adore the Mac Mini. :] It’s so compact and fast. Like, whoosh. I was raised on Mac stuff… Mac whore since conception. Hah. I am dating myself.

Now I want one of them fancy desktop ones that’s an inch thick screen, a wireless keyboard and mouse and NOTHING ELSE. *slobber*

That Davetoon wins at the internet.

  5. delmer says:

This is totally unrelated to your new Mac. I hope you won’t mind.

Liz Hurley has a ‘got milk’ ad running now. I don’t know that it’s new, though it is new to me. I saw it in the new Reader’s Digest. I thought you’d want to know, just in case you don’t have some supernatural Liz Hurley sense that tingles whenever she is in anything new.

Oh. To stay on topic — the new Mac looks sweet. Really.

  6. Belinda says:

Dave, your hands in that photo are so soft and supple-looking! What’s your secret?

  7. Dave2 says:

My Hello Kitty Pop Tart diet.

  8. Karl says:

Wow, that mini Mac indeed looks sweeeeeet. I actually did own an Apple once. It was…*cough* an Apple IIc. Now excuse me while I go grease the wheels on my walker.

  9. Chanakin says:

LMAO Karl. I finally got around to tossing my IIc a couple months ago… I found a copy of Aztec in the drive.

Dave, you’re slowly turning me away from the Dark Side and it scares me. Even the accessories for Mac kick ass.

  10. Neil T. says:

Dammit Dave – I buy the one Apple computer that you don’t have and then you go and buy the new, better model! Give me a break! 🙂

Seriously, I hope you enjoy your Mac Mini as much as I have.

  11. kilax says:

I am always so jealous of you and your Mac gadgets… as soon as I graduate and have more $$$…

  12. ChillyWilly says:

Congrats on the mini purchase. I love my G4 mini and it’s ability to be quiet and small. It’s such a cool little computer, besides being a Mac. Even with my new MacBook Pro 15″, the mini still gets used a lot. If I ever upgrade to it the Intel Core Duo, the current mini will go to my daughter.

  13. Bec says:

Sigh… I find myself screaming at my Compaq Evo everyday – why aren’t you a Mac? Waking up in the morning to see the Mac fairy’s havemn’t been in is… disappointing. Ah, when the suitcase full of money arrives…

  14. That’s wicked cool…for a mac and all. lol

  15. Kevin says:

I may be asking you for some advice regarding the media server thingie. My brother in law is looking at buying a new computer and I’m trying to ween him towards a Mac (which he really wants, but feels that the media functionality of a Wintel box is better and easier). I told him all that he wants is possible on Mac, but I don’t know how to do it. Would you be offended if I refer him your way?

  16. well, aren’t you special! I want one but I spent all my money on flowers 🙁
