Buddha Dave makes me feel so enlightened!
There are movies that entertain, and then there are movies which actually have something to say.
Little Miss Sunshine actually has something to say.
On the surface, it's just a funny movie about a family with major issues that's fun to watch. But when you dig a little deeper, it's a brilliant commentary on just how messed up life is and all the crazy crap we have to put up with in order to make our way through it. By the time they finally reach the Little Miss Sunshine Pageant, the absurdity of it all is in vivid relief.
Hands-down the best movie I've seen this year...

Basking in sunshine has never felt so good.
lol Adena!
Here I thought it was the Flag of Davetopia!

Oh Little Miss Sunshine... Very good review in France because it has been selected to be shown at the next Deauville American Film Festival.
Alas, I can't see it before September 6, 2006. :-(

As soon as I saw Toni Colette in the cast it was on my list. I'm seeing it this week.

Dave--Hooray for your good words on this movie!
My wife and I have been waiting for this one since we saw it's trailer on the L.A. Film Festival site. It finally made it to town and we too saw it this weekend.
As you said, it was truly wonderful. A movie that makes you laugh, cry and think! How rare. I hope every one gets a chance to see it.
Another movie I am looking forward to is "Chalk". It is supposed to be out at the end of the year.
