Maps2

This morning I awoke to two emails regarding yesterday's experimentation with Google Maps...

The first was from somebody who felt compelled to write and say "nice Photoshop hack" in regards to the Google Map screen capture that I had included (apparently he felt it "looks fake").

The second was from somebody showing me how I can put the slow Google code only on the pages that have maps. The only restriction is that I can't put the map in the main body of an entry, because then web feed readers will choke and die (they'll have to go in extended entries).

UPDATE: This is so cool. After goofing around for a while, I was inspired to redo my travel map with the Google Maps API. It's pretty sweet. I've got custom icons to separate my Hard Rock visits from other visits, and all the data is read from an XML file so I can update easily. I'm pretty happy with it, so I've added my map to the tab bar on every page.

The map below is fully interactive. You can use the arrow buttons or click and drag to move around, zoom in and out with the + and - buttons, or switch to satellite and hybrid views with those buttons...

I wasn't really looking at the map itself but I like how if you keep zooming out quickly, the monkey and Dave get closer and closer until they merge and become.....Dave. Dave with a bump on his head, and slightly strange ears.

I wanted to comment on your "100 things" list, but didn't see anywhere to do that, so I'm parking it here.:)
That was one of the best lists I've read. Love your summary on the whole heaven/hell thing and buddhism (I think I'm a buddhist but afraid to use a label).

My boys introduced me to anime and now I'm hooked. Have you watched any parts of the amazing "Final Fantasy;Advent Children" yet? Pretty cool. Anyway, great list!

I thought you might be happy to know that the javascript gives an error in IE6 for pc and the images don't load.. :)
