Today I received a sweet fan-mail that had so many nice things to say that I got a little bit choked up reading it. They started off by telling me how much they like my writings and my cartoons... then they went on to say how much they love that they can count on something new at Blogography every day... then they had to tell me that this is their favorite blog and that they often go back and re-read old entries because they find them so entertaining.
At this point I was feeling pretty special. I mean, you like me! You really like me!
But then I got to the end of the e-mail where it said this: "Too bad you rarely comment on the more serious things going on in the world today. I'm sure your readers would like for you to tackle something important from time to time."
Uh... what?
I never rehearse or plan ahead what I'm going to write here. I just open up my PowerBook when it's time to write, and whatever happens, happens. But, in the interest of pleasing a fan, I thought I'd try commenting on the serious issues other bloggers are talking about. And since I don't know what they might be, I'll just visit Technorati and take a look at the top ten things that people are searching for there...
Funny, that didn't seem so different from other entries. Maybe I did it all wrong.
:) Nice entry. Well your blog is always the first I look to in Bloglines for updates. That's out of 44 feeds.
I always wait until the end of scanning through all my bloglines updates to read yours. It's kinda like the cherry on an ice cream sundae... you save the best for last. In that regard, you even beat the daily Dilbert update. Feel special!
Here's something interesting regarding the iPod Nano (no, not bashing). It's a SubSystm video about cracking it open and checking out the inside. Kinda cool.
Hmmm. I thought your obviously sincere grief about New Orleans was writing about a more serious issue. And you've certainly never concealed your contempt for the Bushwackos.
I don't know about your other devoted followers, but I don't come here looking for commentary on heavy stuff. There's plenty of that on Boing Boing. :>) I read Blogography daily because I always feel so much better about my own life after reading about yours.
Wait, that came out wrong . . .
I was directly effected by the LA power outage. It sucked balls. Dreamhost does have a backup power generator but it failed on them. Thus why they were down.
And yes Dave, I look forward every day to your posts. You have a great way of telling a story that I could only dream of having. I think you hit on all the topics that matter. Veronica Mars, Elizabeth Hurley, peeling bananas from the bottom up. All the stuff that matters in the world.
I recently discovered your site while looking at widgets for my dashboad. I downloaded ask dave. mostly because it was just some guy holding an etch-a-sketch using it like a magic 8 ball. just bad ass. then i started reading blogography. your cartoons now make up my screensaver. this site is awesome! even if you dont address serious issues very often. i do have a question tho? DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN?
Thanks for the kind comments! I am neither Republican nor Democrat, and attempt to explain it (poorly, I admit) in the following entry:

But... but... I come here to ESCAPE the serious.
Man, I TOTALLY understand the fury behind the "impeach Bush" movement. But here's the thing--should Bush resign or be impeached, we're left with...anyone? DICK CHENEY. Talk about "out of the frying pan and into the fire". Nope, I think we're just gonna have to ride this one out.
And this is the first time I've commented here, but you rock, so write what you write. I even hung in over a period of a few days in which EVERY time I tried to click on one of your archive posts, my computer would crash. It would jam, and then almost all at once, FIFTY-NINE IE windows would open up with a "page could not be displayed" message. All I could do was turn it off manually and back on again. And here's how smart I am: As soon as I got it up and running again, I'd go directly back to your site and TRY THE SAME THING AGAIN. With the same results. You know the "definition of insanity", don't you?
A truly devoted fan, I am.
