Valley

Dave!I just got an e-mail from my little brother (a far more talented photographer than I am) with the most amazing panorama shot of our home here in the Cashmere Valley. It would seem that while I was slaving away at work, he was out in this beautiful weather on a motorcycle ride. Lucky bastard! You can click on the photo to open up a larger shot in a new window...

Cashmere Valley Pano

He notes: "Shot with Canon S500 in panoramic mode and stitched together in Canon stitch software."

Such stunning country (and such a great shot!) I miss Washington. We're considering Lake Chelan as one of the spots we'll spend 6-8 months in, down the road.

Chelan is wonderful during the summer... and, lucky for me, it's just 40 minutes away! I haven't yet made a run up on my motorcycle this year, and am really looking forward to that. The sad thing about the valley here is that all the hills are already dying and turning brown, and will lose their green entirely in another month. I hope my brother takes a photo from this same vantage point in Fall, Winter, and Spring... it would be interesting to see the changes of the seasons.

When I lived in Steilacoom and spent a lot of time in Seattle... I loved it, but wasn't sure I'd miss it. I'm a sun worshipper, and there was so much gray. But to my surprise, I do. Badly. We're trying to decide whether the time we'll spend in Washington will be in Seattle, Whidbey Island, Lake Chelan or areas west + north of Olympia.

Just about anywhere in Washington can be a nice place to live... though I don't think I could live in Seattle proper because the traffic is so bad. I suppose it just depends on what kind of work you want, how many people you want around you, and what kind of weather you like!

We both work from home, so commuter/rush hour traffic isn't an issue. But whether or not we opt for city dwelling vs. beach/lake/woods living will depend, I'm sure, on where we've just come from before it.

If we spend another 4 years in rural Santa Fe, I've no doubt I'll be craving some urban time again for awhile.

Looks like home... we'll be in Manson 4th of July weekend.

And I'll be off to Salt Lake City! I don't envy you in the mad rush of tourists at the lake that weekend. I avoid the entire Chelan area over any summer holiday (of course, it's crowded anytime the weather is warm now, so I guess that's every day). Sad.

My parents have 100' of waterfront so am not contending for space at the parks. Of course, my entire family and all of the Ballards will probably be there. Luckily, we're staying in my dad's "other" house and will have it to ourselves! It's 3 bdrm/2 bath. He usually rents it out.
